Science-Based Prevention: Sample Programs

The Central CAPT web site has moved to be part of a new National CAPT web site. In 10 seconds you will be automatically redirected to http://captus.samhsa.gov/central/central.cfm -- Use this form if you have any questions.

This page has changed!

Our goal with the Central CAPT Effective Prevention Programs database has been to provide information about model and promising programs, yet not add to the complexity of choices. Currently, efforts are underway for the National CAPT system to combine the efforts of the individual CAPT's effective programs databases, particularly those of Western and Northeast CAPT. This listing of programs will be useful in addition to the CSAP Model Programs as it will also include promising programs.

Our Central CAPT Effective Prevention Programs Database is no longer available. For other lists of effective programs, see the sites listed below:

Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) Model Programs
www.samhsa.gov/centers/csap/modelprograms/
The programs on this site were deemed model by the criteria set forth by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP). They have been tested in communities and schools across America and proven to prevent or decrease substance abuse in children. These programs are a subset of the programs available on the Western CAPT Web site.

The Safe and Drug-Free Schools Program has used an expert panel process to identify promising and exemplary programs that should be promoted nationally. A 15-member Expert Panel oversaw a valid and reliable process for identifying effective school-based programs that promote healthy students and safe, disciplined and drug-free schools.

Click on Blueprints when you get to this site to take a look at model violence prevention programs. Many, but not all of these programs are included in the Western CAPT site.

Please Note!

Several steps, like assessing your needs and developing your capacity, should take place before you select a prevention program. For help with the prevention planning process, including a link to Select Programs, which will include many of the links above, visit the CSAP Decision Support System (DSS) at www.preventiondss.org.
