Brief Overview of Statewide Prevention Plan
In an effort to substantially reduce the impact of ATOD use on Minnesotans of all ages, the statewide prevention plan will assist communities in:
- Assessing the levels of community risks and protective factors
- Assessing the readiness of the communities to be involved in prevention efforts
- Using current data to establish priorities
- Directing resources in the communities to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors
- Targeting efforts based on assessment findings
- Using "Best Practices" and CSAP's "Guiding Principals" for program implementation
- Evaluating programs for effectiveness and improvements.
The state prevention plan is composed of four broad strategies:
- The Minnesota ATOD Prevention Coordinating Council (MAPCC) will identify the most pressing prevention needs throughout the state and provide focus for state resources,
- Develop ongoing educational opportunities for prevention professionals and opportunities for communities to showcase and share their successes,
- Strengthen the network of available resource centers to assist programs, communities, tribes and counties in their prevention efforts,
- Develop a common system for collecting program data via web-based reporting systems
