Brief Overview of Statewide Prevention Plan
The "State Plan for Substance Abuse Prevention 1999-2004," was distributed in March, 1999. Eleven state government agencies were represented on the steering committee. The seven prevention planning regions were used for gathering input with two strategic planning meetings held in each region. The Plan includes the following sections:
- state goals and service targets
- substance abuse trends in Iowa
- statewide risk indicators
- sections for each region with
- demographics by county
- top five risk indicators by county
- regional reccomendations from the planning meetings
- analysis of the regional reccomendations
The plan has been utilized by all bidders for the major types of prevention funding. Successful bidders will be working to affect at least two of the "Goals for Local Agencies" and at least two of the "Target for Services."
