The Central Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT) is administered by the Minnesota Institute of Public Health with funding provided through a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP).

The Central CAPT region is comprised of 10 States and the Red Lake Nation, including seven states that have received State Incentive Grants (SIG). CSAP's Central CAPT works closely with prevention organizations and state officials working in substance abuse prevention in all of these states and jurisdictions. Please click on a state to get more information about prevention resources and organizations.

The fundamental mission of Central CAPT and the national CAPT system is to bring research to practice. The CAPT system is designed to work with States and local communities, policymakers and local leaders, agencies and task forces to apply science-based prevention technology that works. The process of transferring proven research to daily application involves taking knowledge and packaging it into practical, user-friendly formats, and facilitating its adoption in the field.

What is the process for requesting and receiving training or technical assistance?

Contact the Center Manager to access Central CAPT services. Staff will discuss your needs and develop a plan for providing the assistance you have requested.

Who actually delivers the training or technical assistance?

After assessing your needs a qualified prevention professional from the Central CAPT staff or network of Associates will deliver the service that is requested. Central CAPT will work hard to match the correct person or persons to the specific request.

Central CAPT is designed to assist states and communities within the Central region to bring research to practice through the following groups:

State Incentive Grantees and Subrecipients
Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities

Single State Agencies/National Prevention Network initiatives

Do you credential people to be prevention specialists?

Will CAPT help me find grants?

Central CAPT can refer you to grantmaking agencies and in some cases provide technical assistance in applying for grants.
